This is the refractometer we use to find out the percentage of sugar that is in the birch sap. Light enters the blue tone prism and is bent according to the concentration of sugar molecules in the sap sample. You can use it for finding the percentage of sugar in any liquid. They are fun to look through also.
Hold the refractometer up to a strong light source like the sun if you're outdoors and you will beable to see a scale.
Place a drop of birch sap or any other liquid that contains sugar. Here we can see a scale that tells you the percentage of sugar content.
