In this site we have a weather-proof box The cables on the ground are from the buried soil moisture probes. The box holds an instrument called a Data Logger. The data logger measures the temperatures that these probes send up through electric wires to which they are connected. These probes are at different depths in the ground. The two temperature probes are at 0.5 inches. The second probe is under the surface 6 inches and the third probe is sunk into the ground 24 inches.

Every week, if possble, this data logger is relieved of its load of temperatures by a laptop that we take down there.
